The training.
Dr. Salgado earned his M.D. at Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed both his general and plastic surgery residencies at Georgetown University Medical Center, with additional plastic surgery training at Strong Memorial Hospital, University of Rochester. He pursued reconstructive microsurgery fellowships at E-Da Hospital / I-Shou University and Chang-Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan, two of the most demanding microsurgical programs in the world.
The academic practice.
He holds the position of Professor of Surgery and Interim Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Miami Hospital, and directs the Center for Aesthetic and Corrective Genital Surgery. He has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery continuously since 2001, recertified in 2011 and again in 2021. He served as Major in the United States Army, Chief of Plastic Surgery in two military hospitals.

His clinical focus is split between three demanding domains: reconstructive microsurgery, aesthetic and reconstructive genital surgery (including total gender-affirming surgery) and the safe removal of biopolymers, where he is recognized internationally as one of the originators of the established protocol. He lectures regularly on all three at international meetings.
Academic record.
More than 130 peer-reviewed publications, multiple book chapters and a tenure as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Reconstructive Surgery and Anaplastology from 2013 to 2017. Recognized twice as one of America’s Top Plastic Surgeons by the Consumers’ Research Council of America.
